LLMs’ knowledge cutoff – Solved

LLMs’ training data cutoff is a concerning disclaimer that sometimes shakes our confidence. Some detractors use this as a reason to criticize LLMs (At times, even I have said so ;)).

However, we shouldn’t worry too much about it. What standard are we using to evaluate these models? The universal benchmark seems to be Google.

Have you ever considered that Google retrieves answers from existing content and presents it as is? Have you ever doubted Google’s capabilities simply because the source data is outdated? Have you questioned the accuracy of the search results?

Huge respect goes to the Google search engine for serving the world for multiple decades by now. Google has become synonymous with search, to the extent that the term “search” is used less frequently.

Yes, keeping LLMs updated with current affairs is a daunting task, but I wouldn’t be surprised if a model specifically designed to focus on this emerges at any time. Today, we expect a single model to handle everything, which isn’t scalable. The shift towards multi-model has already become the new normal.

So, let’s continue to debate the effectiveness of LLMs but proceed with one less argument 🙂
